Why 2015 may be the new "2012" for your website

The world is gripped with a fascination with 2012 being "the end of the world".  We're not buying it, but your website might see an "end-time" scenario in the year 2015, and if you don't take the steps that your competitors might be, your business could be seeing the end of its world as it knows it.

With the mobile world exploding in population with iPhones and Android phones, Morgan Stanley’s analysts believe that, based on the current rate of change and adoption, the mobile web will be bigger than desktop Internet use by 2015. The proliferation of better devices and the availability of better data coverage are two trends driving growth; having better services and smaller, cheaper devices has led to a huge explosion in mobile technology that far outpaces the growth of any other major computing era before it.     That's exciting and all, but where does that leave you and your site now?

A vast majority of websites were/are still designed and built with the desktop in mind.  Massive monitors and pixel real estate may make your site look great on a desktop, but when that same site is viewed on a smartphone (which, as stated above, will be happening more and more as time goes on), it suffers.  Visitors will be forced to "swipe" all over to cross those massive layouts, zooming in to attempt to tap those tiny buttons that were acceptable for a desktop, hoping to find the information they need.  Too much user frustration, and your potential customer is going somewhere else.
If you don't have a mobile site, don't feel too bad right now.  As of May 2011, ninety of the top two hundred visited sites on the net still don't have a mobile version, which means its safe to say your competition probably doesn't either.  Take advantage of this now and contact Alegre Media and we can start talking about the options you have for future-proofing your site and how you can take advantage of the changing mobile landscape.
